Trump Invites Families of Shot Military Personnel to White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the head of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to help others.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Changes
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general Bondi informed the program that she planned to meet with the family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” he addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
