The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the music selection.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
