The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown for three decades, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League last season, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach any other side on English soil. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, that means I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would need to occur to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last term. The team has suffered a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the notion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about the player himself, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
