Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known failings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
