New Details Come to Light About the Discovery of the Reiner Couple's Remains
New information has come to light about the untimely deaths of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were found at their residence home on Sunday.
The Alarm
According to a report citing a confidential source, a massage therapist scheduled for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the home. The practitioner then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives in the vicinity.
When she went into the residence, Romy discovered her father's body. Accounts indicate she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Subsequently, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Proceedings
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, including the alleged use of a deadly weapon, said to be a knife. He is now in custody and is ineligible for bail.
Correcting the Record
The confidential informant challenged several earlier details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the grounds, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
The source also refuted circulated suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This correction applies to reports of alleged "unstable" conduct by Nick at a event thrown by Conan O'Brien on the night before the discovery. Although the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "major confrontation" between the two were not correct.
Ongoing Inquiry Details
According to law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports noted the condition of their bodies suggested they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the family home. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, stated his client had a medical issue and would be unable to attend until no sooner than Wednesday.
