Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
