LA Battles Unprecedented Heat Only Days Following Major Winter Weather.
After enduring significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, Los Angeles is now seeing abnormally warm weather for the end of February.
Record-Setting Readings
During the day Friday, the temperature climbed to 91°F (33°C) in the city center, as reported by weather officials. This breaks the previous daily record for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established in 2025.
"Very warm conditions" were highlighted on official maps for the region.
Safety Warnings
The weather service stated that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their advice featured:
- Staying hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Dramatic Reversal
This sharp rise in mercury follows closely after a powerful winter storm that struck the area recently. That event unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, causing flash flood warnings for many residents.

Forecast Ahead
The outlook suggests a cooldown is expected. Readings were expected to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by Friday night.
Several cities that hit ninety degrees featured Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Meanwhile, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to reach the high 80s.
In the coming days, central LA can see temperatures in the eighties, with cooler weather on tap for the start of March.
