Arsenal's manager has voiced fears that his squad's pursuit for honors this campaign is being threatened by a concerning circle of fitness setbacks and a grueling fixture list.

Key midfielder Declan Rice missed the Champions League trip to face Club Brugge due to illness. In addition, forward Leandro Trossard and defender William Saliba are still unavailable.

There was, however, positive news regarding Gabriel Jesus, with the South American forward added to their Champions League squad. He comes in for the injured youngster Max Dowman, who suffered an ankle problem.

"Training, no because we don't have time to train. But obviously the fact that you are missing players, you are loading other players more, there's a knock-on effect to that and it's a really vicious circle."

Dowman's issue is the most recent in a long series of injuries for the North London side. Since the beginning of last season, they have suffered 95 injuries, the second-highest total in the Premier League.

• Defenders Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Magalhães are not expected to be back until the new year.
• Midfielder Kai Havertz still recover from surgery and "needs more time," as stated by the manager.

Arteta dismissed the idea that training methods were to blame, pointing to a shortage of opportunity for drills. He highlighted the strain on available players, some of whom have played over 150 matches in two years.

Transfer Plans

Despite a significant summer spend exceeding £250 million, Arteta insisted the team is unlikely planning to dip into the winter transfer market.

"At the moment we're just concentrating on getting the players back and with luck it will be a question of a short time," he commented. "It's clear how important those coming weeks are going to be."

Looking Ahead

The squad experienced their initial loss in 18 matches at the hands of Aston Villa, cutting their lead at the top of the league to two points.

Attention now turns to the European stage, where a sixth group-stage victory would virtually guarantee a top-eight finish. Forward Gabriel Martinelli could create a club record by scoring in a fifth straight successive Champions League fixture.

"The team is frustrated with the outcome, but we have to move forward," Martinelli said. "This isn't like everything is going wrong because we lost one game. So we remain united."
