A Pair of Men Detained Over Phone Concealed in House of Commons to Allegedly Play Sex Noises During PMQs
Law enforcement have arrested two men in connection with a mobile phone found concealed within the House of Commons, which was allegedly designed to emit sex noises throughout the weekly parliamentary session.
Finding and Investigation
The device was located near the frontbench in the course of a standard security check of the hall. It is believed it was planned to disrupt the regular debate between Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch in the autumn month.
An official spokesperson stated, “At 10.25 on Wednesday 3 September, a device was found while conducting a standard inspection of the parliamentary hall.”
Detentions and Charges
Enquiries suggested that the device was deliberately placed in a location with the intention of causing disruption to proceedings in the chamber.
- A man in his thirties was arrested on Friday 5 September on suspicion of attempting to intentionally cause a public nuisance.
- Another man in his 60s was arrested on Tuesday 30 September on suspicion of the same offence.
- Both have been released on bail to return at a later date.
Security Measures and Consequences
Heightened precautions were implemented in the House of Commons after the phone was discovered. Sound-guided visits and escorted visits were cancelled, and there was limited entry to the main hall.
The upper house followed suit to limit entry to the their debating area “for safety reasons.”
Officials added, “Investigations continue, and we are updating the parliamentary officials informed with our probe.”
Seriousness of the Incident
The event is being treated seriously as it constitutes a significant violation of parliamentary security. The phone was located while numerous guards based in the parliamentary area were on industrial action over pay and conditions.
Consequently, the public were prohibited from the legislative grounds. Labor representatives stated that the strike proceeded due to reduction of annual leave entitlements, stagnant pay, and an wage disparity based on race.
